Post offices are available everywhere and visible by their yellow signs. Outgoing airmail is reliable. Note that if you mail letters at the main sorting office of any city (usually situated on Avenue Mohammed V), they will arrive several days sooner than if you mail them from elsewhere, sometimes in as little as three days to Europe. Airmail letters to North America take between 5 and 14 days; to Europe between 3 and 10 days; and to Australasia about two weeks.

For a 20-gram airmail letter or postcard, rates are 12 DH to the United States, and 15 DH to Australia or New Zealand.

Shipping Packages

Within Morocco, the Express Mail Service (EMS, or Poste Rapide) offers overnight delivery from main post offices to major cities. There is also same-day service between Rabat and Casablanca. The international EMS takes three to five days from Morocco to Europe. DHL is quicker but more than double the price. UPS operates only in Casablanca. FedEx has locations in Agadir, Casablanca, Fez, Marrakesh, Rabat, and Tangier.

Sending packages out of the country is easy enough. Go to the Colis Postaux (parcel post office; one in each town), where you can also buy boxes. You'll need to fill in some forms and show the package to customs officials before wrapping it. Airmail parcels reach North America in about two weeks, Europe in about 10 days. DHL offers a special rate for handicraft items shipped overseas, and some carpet stores can arrange shipping, though some scams have been reported whereby a substandard carpet is shipped to your home, so proceed with caution.
